Heartland pricing: what you'll really pay

Heartland publishes only starting prices, 2.6% + 10¢ per in-person sale and $89 a month for its restaurant or retail POS, so your real cost comes in a quote.

Prices checked October 19, 2026 From providers' own sites How we make money

The bottom line

Heartland publishes only starting prices. In-person card sales start at 2.6% + 10¢, and its restaurant and retail POS start at $89 a month. Everything else, from online rates to contract terms, comes in a quote.

Heartland says you can pick from more than one rate plan, so the price you’re offered may not match the starting price. Treat the published numbers as a floor to ask about, not a quote.

Who it’s for

  • Restaurants and retailers who want a custom setup. Heartland says you can “Pick the rate plans, devices and integrations that work best for your business.”
  • Owners who’d rather talk to a sales rep than compare prices online. Real pricing comes through Heartland’s quote form.

Who should skip it

  • Owners who want to compare prices before talking to sales. Only starting prices are published.
  • Shops that sell online or take phone orders. Online and keyed-in rates aren’t published.
  • Anyone who wants clear contract terms up front. Contract length and cancellation fees aren’t published.

The catch

Only starting prices are public. The 2.6% + 10¢ and $89 a month are “starting at” prices. Your actual rates, contract terms and fees need a quote.

There’s more than one rate plan. The rate on the page may not be the plan you’re offered.

Online and keyed-in rates aren’t published.

No contract, hardware or payout details are published. Ask for all three before you sign.

The brand is changing. Heartland says it “is transitioning to the Global Payments brand.”

What it costs at your size

Heartland doesn’t publish full pricing, so treat this as a best case, not an estimate of your bill. It uses Heartland’s starting prices and assumes every payment is a card tapped, dipped or swiped in person.

Example: $10,000 a month in person, 400 payments, at the starting prices.

  • Rate: 2.6% × $10,000 = $260
  • Per-sale fee: 400 × 10¢ = $40
  • POS: $89
  • Total at starting prices: $389 a month

Your quote may come in higher. When you get one, ask for these in writing, then compare them with your current costs in the fee calculator:

  1. Which rate plan you’re on, and the rate for in-person, online, keyed-in and American Express payments.
  2. The monthly POS fee for your exact setup, and what’s included.
  3. Hardware cost, to buy or lease.
  4. Contract length and the exact cancellation fee.
  5. Any other monthly or yearly fees, such as statement, PCI or chargeback fees.

  • Can they hold your money?

Heartland's merchant terms say it can set up a reserve account and set or change its size at any time at its own choice. This comes from a 2010 terms document on Heartland's site, so ask whether it still applies.

Common questions

How much does Heartland charge per transaction?

Heartland lists in-person card prices "starting at" 2.6% + 10¢ on its Payments+ page. It doesn't publish online or keyed-in rates. Heartland also says you can pick from more than one rate plan, so the rate you're offered may differ from the starting price. Ask for every rate in writing.

How much does Heartland POS cost per month?

Heartland lists both its restaurant POS and its retail POS starting at $89 a month. Full pricing comes through a "Get pricing" form, so the real monthly cost depends on your setup. Heartland doesn't publish hardware prices, contract terms or cancellation fees on its pricing pages.

Is Heartland part of Global Payments?

Heartland's pricing page says "Heartland is transitioning to the Global Payments brand" and describes itself as "Heartland, a Global Payments company (NYSE: GPN)." If you sign up, check which company name is on your contract and your statements, so you know who to contact.

Does Heartland have a contract?

Heartland doesn't publish contract terms or early termination fees on the pricing pages we checked. That doesn't mean there isn't one. Ask for the contract length, any cancellation fee, and what happens to hardware if you leave, all in writing, before you sign.
