The bottom line
SpotOn sells its restaurant POS two ways. All-In is $0 a month per station with hardware included, but charges 2.79% + 20¢ per card sale, has processing minimums and needs a 2-year minimum term. Essentials is $55 a month per station, month to month, at 2.45% + 15¢.
By our math, the two cost about the same at $10,000 a month in card sales per station. Above that, Essentials costs less each month, but you buy the hardware.

Who it’s for
- Restaurants that want low upfront cost. All-In includes the hardware for $0 a month per station.
- Restaurants that want to stay flexible. SpotOn says Essentials is “Ideal for most restaurants, with month-to-month flexibility.”
- Small retail and service shops. SpotOn’s small-business Terminal plan is listed at $25 a month, with $240 for the hardware.
Who should skip it
- Owners who want to use their own hardware. SpotOn says you can’t.
- Restaurants that might close or sell within two years. All-In has a 2-year minimum term.

The catch
The $0 plan costs more per sale. All-In charges 2.79% + 20¢, against 2.45% + 15¢ on Essentials.
All-In has minimums and a 2-year term. SpotOn says “Processing minimums apply, 2yr minimum term.” It doesn’t publish the minimum amount or the cost of leaving early.
Your hardware is locked to SpotOn. SpotOn says no to using your own POS hardware or tablets.
Essentials hardware is extra. SpotOn lists the Station 15 at $750 (on sale from $995) and the Handheld at $297 (on sale from $495), “Plus implementation costs.” Sale prices can change.
Amex costs more on Essentials. It’s 3.19% + 15¢.
There may be a software bundle on top. SpotOn lists a restaurant Core Bundle at “$50/mo per location + 20bps of GPV per location (capped at $200/location).” 20bps means 0.20% of your sales. Ask whether your plan needs it.
Online rates and payout times aren’t published.
What it costs at your size
These are estimates. They use SpotOn’s published restaurant rates for one station and assume every payment is a card tapped, dipped or swiped in person. They leave out hardware, implementation and any Core Bundle fee.
Example 1: $10,000 a month, 400 payments, one station.
- All-In: 2.79% × $10,000 = $279, plus 400 × 20¢ = $80, plus $0 a month. Estimated total: $359 a month
- Essentials: 2.45% × $10,000 = $245, plus 400 × 15¢ = $60, plus $55 a month. Estimated total: $360 a month
Example 2: $20,000 a month, 800 payments, one station.
- All-In: $558 + $160 = $718 a month
- Essentials: $490 + $120 + $55 = $665 a month
At this size, Essentials costs $53 a month less, or $636 a year. That’s before the hardware you’d buy for Essentials, which All-In includes.

Can they hold your money?
SpotOn's processing terms say the bank can require a reserve deposit at any time and can hold back payments from your sales to fund it. This comes from a 2019 terms document on SpotOn's site, so ask whether it still applies.
