Chase Payment Solutions fees: what you'll really pay

Chase charges 2.6% + 10¢ per in-person card sale and 2.9% + 25¢ online, but says monthly fees may apply to some products and plans without publishing most of them.

The bottom line

Chase charges 2.6% + 10¢ for each in-person card sale, and can pay you the same day if you deposit into a Chase business checking account. A month with $10,000 in card sales over 400 payments costs about $300 in processing.

The catch is the monthly fee. Chase says monthly fees may apply to certain products and plans, but publishes only one amount: its standalone terminals start at $9.95 a month. Get every monthly fee in writing before you sign.

Who it’s for

  • Businesses that already bank with Chase. Same-day deposits into Chase business checking come at no extra cost, Chase says.
  • Shops that want one simple in-person rate. Tap, insert and swipe all cost 2.6% + 10¢, including Tap to Pay on a phone.
  • Owners who care about cash flow. With QuickAccept, payments completed by 5 p.m. PT, Sunday to Friday, land the same day.

Who should skip it

  • Owners who want every fee published up front. Chase lists only one monthly fee amount.
  • Businesses that bank somewhere else. The same-day deposit perk needs a Chase business checking account.
  • Shops that type in a lot of cards. Keyed-in payments and payment links cost 3.5% + 10¢.
  • Businesses in US territories. Chase says QuickAccept isn’t available there.

The catch

Most monthly fees aren’t published. Chase says “Monthly fees may apply to certain products and pricing plans.” The only amount we found is on its standalone terminals page: a monthly fee “from $9.95”.

Same-day money needs a Chase account. Same-day funding goes into a Chase business checking account.

Chase’s own pages disagree on the keyed-in rate. The merchant fees page and its FAQ say 3.5% + 10¢. The payments overview page says 3.5% + 15 cents. Ask which one applies to you.

Hardware is extra. Chase says “Hardware and accessories can be purchased separately at an additional cost.” Its QuickAccept page lists the Chase Card Reader at $99 and the Chase POS Terminal at $499, and its terminals page lists the Chase Wireless Terminal at $499 and the Countertop Terminal at $399.

Contract terms aren’t published. Ask about the term length and any cancellation fee.

What it costs at your size

These are estimates. They use Chase’s published rates and leave out any monthly fees, since Chase doesn’t publish most of them.

Example 1: $10,000 a month in person, 400 payments.

  • Rate: 2.6% × $10,000 = $260
  • Per-sale fee: 400 × 10¢ = $40
  • Estimated processing: $300 a month, plus any monthly fees

Example 2: $10,000 a month online, 200 orders.

  • Rate: 2.9% × $10,000 = $290
  • Per-order fee: 200 × 25¢ = $50
  • Estimated processing: $340 a month, plus any monthly fees

Once Chase quotes its monthly fees, add them to these numbers and compare in the fee calculator.

Compared with

  • Square: 2.6% + 15¢ in person on its Free plan, with a published $0 monthly fee and next-business-day payouts for payments taken before 5 PM PT.
  • Helcim: interchange-plus with a published markup of 0.40% + 8¢ in person, no monthly fee and next-business-morning deposits.

Common questions

How much does Chase charge per transaction?

Chase lists 2.6% + 10¢ for tap, dip or swipe payments, including Tap to Pay on a phone. E-commerce payments are 2.9% + 25¢. Keyed-in payments, payment links and its virtual terminal are 3.5% + 10¢ on its merchant fees page, though another Chase page says 3.5% + 15¢.

Does Chase charge a monthly fee for card processing?

It may. Chase's merchant fees page says "Monthly fees may apply to certain products and pricing plans." It doesn't say which products or plans. The only amount we found is on its standalone terminals page: a monthly fee "from $9.95". Before you sign up, ask Chase to list every monthly fee for your setup, in writing, so you can add it to your cost.

How fast does Chase pay out?

Chase says its QuickAccept tools pay out as soon as the same day, at no extra cost, when you deposit into a Chase business checking account, for payments completed by 5 p.m. PT, Sunday to Friday. Its standalone terminals page promises next-day funding instead. If you bank elsewhere, Chase's pages don't promise the same speed.

Do I need a Chase bank account?

For same-day deposits, yes. Chase says same-day funding goes into a Chase business checking account, and its QuickAccept tool is built into its Chase Business Complete Banking account. Chase also says QuickAccept isn't available in US territories or outside the US.
