The short answer: on a normal US sale Etsy charges a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item and shipping, and 3% + $0.25 for payment processing. On a $30 item with $6 shipping, that is $3.87 and Etsy pays you $32.13. If the buyer came from an Etsy Offsite Ad, the same sale costs $9.27.

The fees on an Etsy sale
- Listing fee, $0.20. You pay it when you publish a listing, whether or not it sells. The listing lasts four months. Each extra unit sold from the same listing costs another $0.20.
- Transaction fee, 6.5%. Charged on the item price plus the shipping and gift wrap you charge. Sales tax is left out.
- Payment processing, 3% + $0.25. Charged on the whole order, sales tax included. This is the one fee where tax counts.
- Offsite Ads, only on sales from an ad. Etsy advertises your listings on other websites. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and buys within 30 days, Etsy takes a share of the order.
| Sale | Fees | Share of the sale | You keep |
|---|---|---|---|
| $15.00 | $1.88 | 12.5% | $13.13 |
| $35.00 | $3.78 | 10.8% | $31.23 |
| $105.00 | $10.43 | 9.9% | $94.58 |
| Sale | Fees | Share of the sale | You keep |
|---|---|---|---|
| $15.00 | $4.13 | 27.5% | $10.88 |
| $35.00 | $9.03 | 25.8% | $25.98 |
| $105.00 | $26.18 | 24.9% | $78.83 |
Offsite Ads: the fee you may not be able to turn off
Offsite Ads cost 15% of the order (item, shipping and gift wrap) for shops that have sold less than $10,000 in the past 365 days. Those shops can opt out.
Once your shop has ever sold $10,000 in a 365-day period, the ads become mandatory for the life of the shop, at a lower 12%. Etsy caps the fee at $100 per order, so the cap only matters on orders above about $667 (at 15%) or $833 (at 12%).
You can’t tell in advance which sales will come from an ad. A simple way to plan: price so the sale still works if the ad fee applies, or check your Shop Manager to see what share of past orders were attributed to Offsite Ads.
Monthly costs and optional extras
The standard Etsy plan has no monthly fee. Etsy Plus and the Pattern website are optional subscriptions, priced below. Etsy also charges a one-time set-up fee when you open a shop, but doesn’t publish the amount: it is shown during sign-up.
| Fee | Amount | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Etsy Plus | $10.00 | optional; includes 15 listing credits (shown as $3) and $5 USD Etsy Ads credit per month, no rollover |
| Instant transfer fee (US, limited beta) | 1%, min $0.25, max $1.00 | select US sellers only; max $500/day, min transfer $25 |
| Set-up fee (one-time, opening a shop) | Not published, see their page | |
| Pattern website subscription (optional standalone site) | $15.00 | optional; no Etsy transaction fee on Pattern sales, processing fees still apply |
Every Etsy seller fee
| Fee | Amount | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee (per listing, 4-month listing) | $0.20 | charged whether or not the item sells; listing expires after 4 months |
| Auto-renew (expired listing) | $0.20 | listing auto-renews at end of 4-month period unless set to Manual |
| Auto-renew sold / multi-quantity (each additional quantity sold) | $0.20 | applies when more than 1 quantity of a listing sells |
| Private (custom) listing fee | $0.20 | charged only if the specified buyer purchases |
| Transaction fee (all categories) | 6.5% | charged in listing currency; converted to payment-account currency at market rate if different |
| Etsy Payments processing fee (US bank account) | 3% + $0.25 | single US rate; the table has no domestic/international split for the US |

| Offsite Ads fee, shop has ever reached $10,000 USD in a 365-day period (MANDATORY for life of shop) | 12%, max $100.00 | mandatory once threshold reached, even if sales later fall; cap 100 USD per order |
| Etsy Ads (on-site promoted listings) | Not published, see their page | optional; minimum daily budget $1 |
| Share & Save credit (NEGATIVE fee / refund) | 4% back | enrolled sellers; order within 30 days of a click on the seller's own trackable link; not if last click was an Offsite Ad |
| Currency conversion fee | 2.5% | only if a US seller lists in a currency other than USD |
| Refunds: are fees returned? | Rule | seller refunds via Shop Manager: transaction + processing fees refunded (processing recalculated proportionally); Etsy-covered refunds (Purchase Protection): fees NOT returned |
| Chargeback fee | Not published, see their page |
A few rules worth knowing:
- Refunds you issue through Shop Manager get the transaction and processing fees back for the refunded transactions. Refunds Etsy covers through its purchase protection keep every fee.
- List in US dollars. Listing in another currency adds a 2.5% conversion fee on each sale.
- Etsy Ads (promoted listings on Etsy itself) are a separate, optional cost per click within a daily budget you set. Etsy doesn’t publish a fixed price.
Your other costs
Etsy’s fees are only part of a sale. Postage comes on top: see real USPS, UPS and FedEx prices in the cheapest way to ship. If Etsy’s share is starting to hurt, compare it with your own online store, or put the same sale through every platform. Common questions
How much does Etsy take per sale?
On a normal US sale, a $0.20 listing fee, 6.5% of the item price and shipping, and 3% + $0.25 for processing. On a $30 item with $6 shipping, that is $3.87, or about 11% of the order. An Offsite Ad sale adds 15% or 12%.
Are Etsy Offsite Ads mandatory?
Only once your shop has sold $10,000 or more in any 365-day period. From then on they are mandatory for the life of the shop at 12%, capped at $100 per order. Smaller shops pay 15% on ad sales and can opt out.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the Offsite Ads fee include the shipping you charge, and payment processing applies to the whole order, including shipping and sales tax.
Do I pay the Etsy listing fee if my item does not sell?
Yes. The $0.20 listing fee is charged when you publish, whether or not the item sells, and the listing lasts four months. If it auto-renews, you pay it again.
Does it cost money to open an Etsy shop?
Etsy charges a one-time, non-refundable set-up fee when you open a shop. It does not publish the amount, which varies by location and is shown during sign-up. There is no monthly fee on the standard plan.
How much does Etsy take from a $100 sale?
$9.95 on a regular sale with no shipping charge and no sales tax: the $0.20 listing fee, 6.5% transaction and 3% + $0.25 processing. You keep $90.05. If the buyer came through an Offsite Ad at 15%, Etsy takes $24.95.
Does Etsy take 30%?
No. On a regular $100 sale Etsy takes 9.9%. A sale that came through an Offsite Ad at 15% costs 25%. Optional Etsy Ads you buy come on top.
