The short answer: in most categories a Basic Store ($27.95 a month) costs less than selling with no Store from about 54 sales a month of a $50 item with $8 shipping, or 43 on yearly renewal. Premium ($74.95) pays off from 144 sales. A Starter Store keeps the no-Store rates, so it pays off only on listings, from 409 a month.

Your eBay bill at four sales levels
| Each month | No Store | Starter Store | Basic Store | Premium Store | Anchor Store |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20 sales, 100 listings | $165.76 | $173.71 | $183.27 | $230.27 | $505.27 |
| 60 sales, 400 listings | $549.78 | $550.23 | $493.91 | $540.91 | $815.91 |
| 150 sales, 1,000 listings | $1,505.70 | $1,476.15 | $1,192.85 | $1,239.85 | $1,514.85 |
| 400 sales, 12,000 listings | $7,427.70 | $6,848.15 | $5,884.35 | $3,381.35 | $3,456.35 |
The cheapest plan is No Store at 20 sales, Basic Store at 60 sales, Basic Store at 150 sales, Premium Store at 400 sales. The bigger Stores earn their price through listings: Premium lists 10,000 items a month free and Anchor 25,000, with lower insertion fees after that.
Where the saving comes from
In most categories a Basic or higher Store lowers the final value fee from 13.6% to 12.7% on the first $2,500 of a sale, and to 2.35% above that, where no Store keeps 13.6% up to $7,500. On a $50 item with $8 shipping that is $0.52 less per sale. The Store pays for itself when those savings reach the subscription: $27.95 ÷ $0.52 rounds up to 54 sales.
The other saving is listings. Without a Store you list 250 items a month free, then pay $0.35 each. A Basic Store lists 1,000 free in all categories and $0.25 after that.
Where a Store pays off, by category
The Store discount is not the same everywhere. In some categories a Store table charges the same rate as no Store, so the subscription never pays for itself through lower fees.

“Never” means the Store’s rate for that item at this price is no lower than the no-Store rate. Free listings can still make a Store worth it there if you list a lot. Every category rate is on eBay’s fees by category.
The catches
- You pay every month, sales or not. The subscription is due in slow months too, so use your typical month, not your best.
- Yearly renewal is cheaper, but leaving early costs. Cancel a yearly Store before its last month and eBay charges an early termination fee: the months left times the monthly Store fee, divided by three. Monthly renewal has no such fee.
- Starter is about listings only. It keeps the no-Store final value fees and the same 250 free listings, and lowers the insertion fee after that from $0.35 to $0.30.
- Enterprise is listed on eBay’s Store page as not currently available, so it is left out.
For every eBay fee on a single sale, use the eBay fee calculator. To compare eBay with Etsy, Amazon or your own store, put one sale through every platform. Labels come on top of eBay’s fees: compare them in the cheapest way to ship.

Common questions
How much is an eBay Store subscription?
On monthly renewal: Starter $7.95, Basic $27.95, Premium $74.95 and Anchor $349.95 a month. Yearly renewal costs less a month (Basic $21.95) and is still billed monthly, but has an early termination fee.
Is an eBay Store worth it?
Once you sell enough. In most categories a Basic Store pays for itself from about 54 sales a month of a $50 item with $8 shipping, through its lower final value fee. Below that, no Store is cheaper unless you need more than 250 free listings a month.
Do eBay Store subscribers pay lower fees?
In most categories, yes: Basic and higher Stores pay 12.7% instead of 13.6% on the first $2,500 of a sale, and get more free listings. Starter Stores pay the no-Store rates.
What is the cheapest eBay Store?
Starter, at $7.95 a month on monthly renewal or $4.95 on yearly. It only lowers the insertion fee after 250 free listings, so it pays off from about 409 listings a month.
Can I cancel an eBay Store any time?
A monthly Store, yes, with no fee. A yearly Store cancelled before its last month costs an early termination fee: the months left times the monthly Store fee, divided by three.
Is eBay still free to sell on?
Free to list, not free to sell. Without a Store there is no monthly fee and your first 250 listings a month are free, but eBay takes its final value fee and a per order fee on each sale. A Store adds a monthly fee in exchange for lower fees and more free listings.
