The bottom line

Nextdoor sells ad space, not leads, and publishes no price for it. You set a daily goal (or a budget for the whole campaign) and a bid. You pay for the impressions and clicks your ads get, whether or not anyone calls.

You pay after the ads run: the first charge comes when your balance reaches $10, and the charge points rise as you pay. There’s no fixed term. You can pause any time, but a live ad can keep running for up to 24 hours after you do.

When Nextdoor charges your card

Your ad spend builds up as a balance. Nextdoor charges your card at one of two points, whichever comes first:

  1. Your balance hits your billing threshold. New accounts start at $10. After each successful charge it steps up to $25, then $50, then $100, and after that it’s the higher of $100 or 7 times your daily goal.
  2. The 1st of the month. Any balance still owed is charged then.

After four successful charges you can set a lower threshold, which means smaller, more frequent charges. A small charge right after you add a card or launch an ad is often a check that the card works; Nextdoor says it disappears within a few business days.

Are Nextdoor Ads worth it for contractors?

Judge them on your own numbers, not on reach. Run a test long enough to read: Nextdoor’s own advice is "Give the model about 7 days to learn before assessing performance." (Nextdoor) Then:

  • Cost per lead = ad spend ÷ calls and messages the ads brought in.
  • Cost per won job = ad spend ÷ jobs you won from them.

The risk is the same as on Yelp Ads: you pay for views and clicks that may never call. If that keeps happening, a per-lead platform like Google Local Services Ads moves that risk to the platform, because you pay only for valid calls, messages and bookings.

How to stop Nextdoor Ads

  1. Open your campaign in the Nextdoor Ads Manager dashboard and pause it. You can leave it paused as long as you like, at no charge.
  2. Expect up to 24 hours of run-on. An ad that’s already live can keep running for up to a day after you pause, and that spend is billed.
  3. Delete the paused campaign if you won’t use it again.

Your last balance is still charged, at your threshold or on the 1st of the month. Ad credit Nextdoor gives you has no cash value and expires a year after it’s issued.

Start with the free part

Nextdoor gives businesses a free Business Page and free posts: "Engage nearby neighbors with free posts that show up in the most visible part of Nextdoor, the neighborhood newsfeed." (Nextdoor) Set those up before you pay for reach. More free options in free contractor leads.

"Most you can pay per lead" is the lead price where profit after leads is zero at your close rate. "Break-even close rate" is the share of reached leads you need to win to cover the month's lead costs.

Common questions

How much do Nextdoor Ads cost?

Nextdoor doesn't publish a rate. You pick a daily goal or a lifetime budget and a bid: a fixed price per 1,000 impressions, or a bid Nextdoor optimizes for impressions, clicks or conversions. You pay for impressions and clicks after they run, and Nextdoor says it won't charge for spend beyond your goal.

Is there a minimum budget for Nextdoor Ads?

Nextdoor's billing and budget help pages don't state one. What they do state is when you're charged: new accounts pay when the balance reaches $10, then $25, $50 and $100 on later charges, then the higher of $100 or 7 times your daily goal. Any balance left is charged on the 1st of the month.

Can I cancel Nextdoor Ads at any time?

Yes. Nextdoor's Self-Service Terms say you can pause a campaign at any time from the dashboard, and paused campaigns aren't charged. A published ad can keep running for up to 24 hours after you pause, and you pay for that. No fixed term or cancellation fee is stated.

Does Nextdoor refund ads?

Not for ads already shown. The Self-Service Terms say delivered ads are non-refundable and other refund requests are decided case by case. If a refund is granted it can take 5 to 10 business days to reach your card. Dispute a wrong charge in writing within 60 days, or you waive the claim.

Does Nextdoor have a monthly subscription for ads?

Nextdoor's Ads Manager help describes Pay As You Go only: you're billed after ads run. If your account offers a prepaid plan, check whether it renews on its own and what happens to unused budget when you stop, before you pay.
