What Yelp Ads cost, and how to stop them

A $5 a day average minimum, paid per click rather than per lead, with no contract on self-serve ads. Canceling stops click ads right away.

The bottom line

Yelp Ads start at $5 a day on average, and you pay per click, not per lead. Yelp notes that minimum budgets can change with your business size. The price of a click isn’t published: it moves with demand. Your monthly budget is a hard cap. Self-serve ads have no contract, and canceling ends click ads immediately.

The trade-off against lead platforms: on Yelp you pay for people who click and then don’t call. On per-lead platforms like Google Local Services Ads, that risk sits with the platform.

How to cancel Yelp Ads

Yelp’s own steps, from its help center:

  1. Go to the Billing page of Yelp for Business on desktop, or tap More, then Billing in the app.
  2. Under Your Products, click Manage.
  3. Click the Pause or Cancel icon next to each paid product you want to stop.
  4. Follow the prompts to finish.

Repeat for each product. Click ads and page upgrades are bought separately. After you cancel:

  • Click (CPC) ads end right away.
  • Page upgrades end at midnight that day.
  • Your final bill comes on the first of the next month.
  • Your business stays on Yelp. Customers can still find your page and contact you.

Are Yelp Ads worth it for contractors?

Work it out from your own account, not from averages. Take a month of Yelp Ads spend and count the calls and messages the ads produced:

  • Cost per lead = ad spend ÷ leads.
  • Cost per won job = ad spend ÷ jobs you won from those leads.

At the $5 a day minimum, a 30-day month is $150 before any upgrades. If that brings one job you’d not have won otherwise, and that job’s profit is more than $150, the ads paid for themselves. If you get no measurable calls after a fair test, canceling costs nothing.

Yelp Ads or Google?

Both charge only what your budget allows. The difference is what you pay for: Yelp charges per click; Google Local Services Ads charge per valid lead (a call, message or booking that meets Google’s rules). If clicks from Yelp rarely turn into calls, a per-lead platform puts that risk back on the platform.

"Most you can pay per lead" is the lead price where profit after leads is zero at your close rate. "Break-even close rate" is the share of reached leads you need to win to cover the month's lead costs.

Common questions

How much do Yelp Ads cost per month?

Yelp says you can spend as little as $5 per day on average, with a footnote that minimum budgets can change based on business size. You set a monthly budget and Yelp says it will never charge more than that. The price of each click isn't published and changes with supply and demand.

Do you pay Yelp per lead?

No. Yelp Ads charge per click, so you pay when someone clicks your ad whether or not they call or message. To get a cost per lead, divide your monthly ad spend by the calls and messages the ads brought in.

How do I cancel Yelp Ads?

Go to the Billing page in Yelp for Business (or More, then Billing in the app), click Manage under Your Products, then the Pause or Cancel icon next to each product, and follow the prompts. Click ads stop right away and your final bill arrives on the first of the next month.

Is there a penalty for canceling Yelp Ads?

Yelp says no: you are free to cancel at any time, and there are no term contracts for self-serve advertisers. Page upgrades are bought separately, so cancel each product you don't want.
