ShipBob pricing: what it publishes, and what you only learn in a quote

ShipBob publishes its storage and receiving rates and most of its surcharges, but not its main per-order fee. Below: every published number, what to ask in the quote, and one alternative with a public rate card.

The short answer

What ShipBob does publish: storage from $5 a bin a month, receiving at $40 for the first 2 hours of each receiving order, free software and store integrations, and most of its surcharges. Get a quote for the per-order fee (picking, packing and the label), then compare it against a 3PL that publishes its rate.

How ShipBob bills an order

ShipBob describes its direct-to-consumer fee as one bundled price: "For B2C orders, this single cost covers the labor for picking and packing the order, standard plain packaging materials (boxes, mailers, dunnage), and the shipping label." To compare it with other 3PLs, ask what’s inside:

  1. The per-order fee at your volume and how many items it includes.
  2. The fee for each extra item.
  3. Which carrier surcharges pass through (its rate card lists residential and delivery-area fees by carrier).
  4. The implementation fee, which its pricing page lists as a standard fee without an amount.

Contract and leaving

ShipBob’s public terms set no fixed contract length. In ShipBob’s words: "You have the right to terminate this Agreement at any time and for any reason, provided you do not have a balance due and owing". The cost of moving your stock out is not published.

One alternative with a public rate card

Amplifier publishes every per-order fee: $2.15 per shipment plus $0.95 per item at up to 100 shipments a month, falling to $1.75 plus $0.70 at 10,001 to 20,000. The downsides: a $100 monthly account fee, and packaging and postage are billed on top. It says there’s no commitment on its standard plan. Its warehouse is in Austin, TX, and it doesn’t list other locations, while ShipBob lists 50+ locations worldwide.
