The short answer: a payment marked goods and services costs the seller 2.99% on a personal account. A business profile pays 1.9% + $0.10 per payment. On a $100 sale you receive $97.01 or $98.00. Personal payments between friends are free, and so is the standard transfer to your bank.

Venmo charges no monthly fee and nothing to open an account. Its debit card, credit card and crypto fees don’t touch your sales, so they are left out.

Business profile or goods and services?

Both are for selling. The difference is the fee shape. Goods and services is a flat 2.99% with no fixed fee. A business profile is a lower 1.9% plus $0.10 per payment, charged on payments of $1 or more.

The business profile costs less on any payment above $9.17. Below that, the fixed $0.10 makes goods and services cheaper. Most sales are bigger than that, so a business profile usually wins, and it keeps business money apart from personal payments.

Instant Transfer fee

Moving your balance to your bank is free on the standard option. Instant Transfer costs 1.75%, at least $0.25 and at most $25:

$10$0.25$9.75

$3,000$25.00$2,975.00

The fee stops growing at $25, which you reach on transfers of $1,428.57 and up.

Sending money with Venmo

Sending from your Venmo balance, debit card or bank is free. A credit card adds 3%, paid by you: $103.00 to send $100. Venmo’s help center says paying a business profile with a credit card is exempt from that 3%, so your customers don’t pay extra to pay you.

Sending to a PayPal account outside the US costs 5% (minimum $0.99, maximum $4.99), plus the 3% if a credit card pays for it.

Venmo at your website checkout

If customers pay with Venmo on your website, the fee is PayPal’s, not Venmo’s: 3.49% + $0.49 per payment, set on PayPal’s fee schedule. That costs more than a business profile, so in-app payments are the cheaper way to take Venmo.

Venmo, Cash App or PayPal for getting paid

On the same $100 payment for goods or services, here is what lands in your balance:

  1. 1.Venmo business profile$98.00
  2. 2.Cash App Business account$97.25
  3. 3.Venmo goods and services (personal)$97.01
  4. 4.PayPal goods and services (personal)$97.01
  5. 5.PayPal Checkout (business)$96.02

None of these brings you buyers. To weigh a payment app against a marketplace, compare the same sale everywhere.
