Mercari fees: what you keep when an item sells

Mercari charges one selling fee and no processing fee. The catch: the fee also counts the shipping your buyer pays. Here is what you keep, and how to keep more.

The short answer: Mercari takes 10% of the item price plus the shipping the buyer pays, and charges no payment processing fee. On a $50 item with $6.49 shipping, you keep $44.35. Listing is free.

What Mercari takes at four prices

Buyer pays $6.49 shipping. The share is of the item price.
Item priceMercari takesYou keep
$10.00 $1.65 (16.5%) $8.35
$25.00 $3.15 (12.6%) $21.85
$50.00 $5.65 (11.3%) $44.35
$100.00 $10.65 (10.6%) $89.35

Why the 10% is more than 10% of your price

Mercari counts the shipping the buyer pays in the amount it takes 10% of. On a $20 item with $6.49 shipping, the fee is $2.65, which is 13.2% of your price. The cheaper the item, the bigger that gap: on a $10 item the fee is 16.5% of the price.

Who pays shipping: you choose

When you list, you pick who pays for the label. If the buyer pays, the label cost is added at checkout and the 10% counts it. If you offer free shipping, the label comes out of your earnings and the 10% skips it.

The same items when you offer free shipping and pay a $6.49 label.
Item priceFee + your labelYou keep
$10.00 $7.49 (74.9%) $2.51
$25.00 $8.99 (36.0%) $16.01
$50.00 $11.49 (23.0%) $38.51
$100.00 $16.49 (16.5%) $83.51

Free shipping costs you more on each sale, but a lower total can win the buyer. Label prices depend on weight and carrier; Mercari lists them on its fees page.

Cashing out

Direct deposit to your bank is free, once a day. A deposit your bank rejects costs $2.00. Instant Pay sends money to a debit card for $3.00 per cash-out, up to $600 a month, once a day.

The 2025 fee change

Since January 6, 2025, sellers pay the 10% selling fee and buyers pay a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee. Before that, Mercari charged the buyer instead of the seller. A listing created before the change switches to the new fees once you edit it.

Mercari, Depop or Poshmark

On the same $50 item, buyer paying $6.49 shipping, no boost:

  1. 1.Depop$47.69
  2. 2.Mercari$44.35
  3. 3.Poshmark$40.00

Mercari sells more than clothes: its own menu lists electronics, toys, gaming and home. For those, also check eBay’s fees. See the three resale apps side by side in Depop vs Poshmark vs Mercari, or put one sale through every platform.

Common questions

How much does Mercari take from a sale?

10% of the item price plus the shipping the buyer pays. There is no payment processing fee and listing is free. On a $50 item with $6.49 shipping, Mercari takes $5.65 and you keep $44.35.

Does Mercari charge a fee on shipping?

Yes, when the buyer pays for shipping: the 10% selling fee counts the item price plus buyer-paid shipping. If you offer free shipping, the fee is on the item price only, but the label comes out of your earnings.

Does Mercari charge a payment processing fee?

Not since January 6, 2025. Listings created or updated since then pay only the 10% selling fee. Buyers pay a separate 3.6% Buyer Protection fee.

How much is the Mercari Instant Pay fee?

$3.00 per cash-out to an eligible debit card, up to $600 a month, once a day. Direct deposit to your bank is free.

Is Mercari cheaper than Depop?

Not on fees. On a $50 item with $6.49 shipping, Depop leaves you $47.69 and Mercari $44.35. A Depop sale from a Boosted listing pays more, and Mercari sells more categories than clothing.
