Jobber vs Housecall Pro: which costs less for your crew?

Jobber is cheaper for a solo owner and for a team of 10. Housecall Pro is slightly cheaper at 5 people and on payments taken in person. Card fees, not the subscription, are most of the bill with either.

Estimate from published prices: 50 invoices a month at $400 each, all paid by card online, monthly billing, no features required. Each app's cheapest plan that covers the crew. Offers and add-ons not included.

The three differences that decide it

1. How they count users. Jobber™ prices each plan by team-size band (1, 5, 10 or 15 users), and its page offers extra users at $29 a month each. Housecall Pro gives each plan a fixed number of users (1, 5 or 8) and publishes an extra-user price only on Max ($35 a month). So a 6-person crew on Housecall Pro has to buy Max at $329 a month, while on Jobber the next band up is Connect for 10 at $299.

2. Maintenance agreements. Housecall Pro puts them on Max only. Jobber’s pricing page doesn’t list them on any plan, so neither is cheap for a shop that sells service plans, and Jobber needs a question before you buy.

3. Card fees. Jobber charges 2.9% + 30¢ online; Housecall Pro charges 2.99% with no fixed fee. The two cost the same on a $333 invoice. Above that Jobber is cheaper, below it Housecall Pro is. In person, Housecall Pro’s 2.59% beats Jobber’s 2.7% + 30¢ at any amount. Housecall Pro charges 3.49% for Amex and business cards; Jobber publishes one rate for all cards. Both charge 1% for bank payments.

The pattern: Jobber keeps QuickBooks sync, GPS and automatic reminders off its 1-person Core plan; Housecall Pro keeps QuickBooks and GPS off Basic and agreements off everything but Max.

Who should pick which

  • Pick Jobber if you work alone and don’t need QuickBooks yet (Core is the cheaper solo plan), or your team is 6 to 15 people, where Jobber’s bands beat buying Housecall Pro Max.
  • Pick Housecall Pro if you’re a crew of 2 to 5 who take most payments in person, or many of your invoices are under $333.
  • Look elsewhere if card fees are your biggest cost and your customers will pay by bank, or you need agreements without a top-tier plan. See Jobber alternatives.

Where ServiceTitan fits

Some readers compare both with ServiceTitan. It’s a different kind of purchase: no published prices, three packages (Starter, Essentials, The Works) priced per technician after a demo, and a referral program aimed at shops with at least 3 technicians and one office person. If you’re under 3 technicians, Jobber and Housecall Pro are the priced options. Our ServiceTitan pricing page explains how it charges and what to ask before the call.

Common questions

Is Jobber or Housecall Pro cheaper?

It depends on team size. At 50 invoices of $400 a month paid online, Jobber is cheaper for one person (Core) and for 10 people (Connect), and Housecall Pro is slightly cheaper for 5 (Essentials). The gap is small next to card fees, which run about $595 a month with either.

Which has lower credit card fees, Jobber or Housecall Pro?

For cards paid online, Jobber's 2.9% + 30¢ is cheaper on invoices above about $333 and Housecall Pro's 2.99% is cheaper below. In person, Housecall Pro's 2.59% beats Jobber's 2.7% + 30¢ at any amount. Both charge 1% for bank (ACH) payments in the US.

Which is better for maintenance agreements?

Housecall Pro includes maintenance agreements only on Max, its top plan. Jobber's pricing page doesn't list which plan includes service agreements, so ask Jobber before you buy if you sell maintenance plans.

How is ServiceTitan different from Jobber and Housecall Pro?

ServiceTitan publishes no prices. It sells three packages priced per technician after a demo, and is aimed at larger shops. Jobber and Housecall Pro both publish their plan prices and offer a free trial.
